eZediaQTI Sample Project
Planets
Explore our solar system with images, movies, and data collected from the internet.
Description
Imagine students as young as grade 6 creating projects on our solar system and then being able to continue to expand the project
over the years. The inspiration for this project started over 4 years ago from a grade six science teacher. eZedia has created
this project as an example of what is possible. There is a wealth of resources on many NASA sites.
Notable Aspects of the Project
- Regardless of where you are in the project notice the navigation bar across the top
- The movies can be created by the students using the NASA Solar System Simulator
While the project is great to watch and learn facts about the planets the most important learning outcomes are from the students
creating the movies of the planets. After doing some pre-work with the students based on their grade level, go to the simulator
link above. The students can then ask the simulator for pictures of the planets. Based on the pre-work you do with the students
take a series of images and just change the time - as if they were moving around the planet. Each image is placed on a different
eZediaQTI frame and then exported out as a linear movie. Students not only learn how to create a movie a frame at a time but gain
understanding of video editing and frame animation.
