eZediaQTI 2.1 New Feature: Generate Web Page
In eZediaQTI 2.1, you can export your entire project as a series of HTML pages. Each frame in your project will be
converted into a single HTML page, with images, rollovers, movies, text, and GoTo links intact.
To Generate a Web Page From Your Project:
1. Choose File > Generate Web Page...
The Generate Web Page sheet appears.
2. Choose a location for your site, and name the site folder.
3. Click Generate.
Your eZediaQTI project is exported as an HTML website. If the "Open in browser when done" check box is selected,
the web page will automatically open for you to preview once the export is complete.
4. When uploading your project, be sure to include all the files in the exported folder.
IMPORTANT
When exporting your project as an HTML site, you must keep the following things in mind:
Graphics Are Flattened On Export
- As part of the export process, Picture Objects, Shape Objects and Text Objects that are set to activate on
"Frame Open" (excluding Picture Objects with "Over" and/or "Pressed" states) get flattened to the background layer.
Your working file does not save these changes - when you return to your project, the objects will not be flattened to
the background. This is simply provided to make your web page smaller so that it downloads faster.
- For example: If you have a Text Object over a rollover button, the Text Object will be flattened to the background,
while the rollover object will not. It will appear that the text has disappeared, when in fact is now behind the interactive
object.
"Active" Objects Cannot Be Overlapping
- Because of the nature of HTML tables, two "active" objects (such as Picture Objects with "Over" and/or "Down" states,
Button Objects, GoTo Objects, and Movie Objects) cannot be overlapping. If your project contains any of these objects that
are overlapping, an error will appear telling you which objects are the culprits, and which frame they are on. The Objects
must be moved before the project can be exported.
Control Objects Cannot Be Used
- Rather than using Control Objects to control Movie Objects, there is a checkbox in the Movie Object Attribute Panel
called "Show Controller in HTML Export". This shows the standard QuickTime control bar below the Movie Object when viewed
in the HTML page.
Object Timers Cannot Be Used
- At this point Object Timers have no effect when exported to HTML. An error message will appear, saying that the object
has been switched back to "Frame Open". The project does not need to be exported again.
Movie Objects Cannot Receive or Send Links
- A Movie Object cannot be set to Activate On Link Only. You cannot activate a Movie with a Button, Rollover,
or Control Object of any kind.
- A Movie Object cannot activate another Object when the movie finishes by linking the Movie to another Object.
This method of activating an Object "On Movie End" only works when exporting to Interactive QuickTime.
Frame Transitions Cannot Be Used
- QuickTime frame transitions will not show up in the final HTML export.
HTML Files Are Overwritten During Export
- When exporting to HTML, the project is often exported into the same folder as you progress through your project.
Every time you export into the same folder, the original HTML files are overwritten. This is important to know if you
plan to add custom HTML elements to any of the pages. For example, if you have edited the HTML itself and added a counter
to the bottom of one of your pages, that file will be overwritten when you next export. You will need to add any custom HTML
code into your final project again before uploading.
The "Export Setup" Dialog Does Not Apply
- In the File Menu, the options in the "Export Setup" dialog do not apply. All of the settings shown in this dialog do
not affect a project that is exported as HTML.
"Close QuickTime Player Window" Cannot Be Used
- In the GoTo Object Attributes Panel, the option "Close QuickTime Player Window" in the "GoTo" pop-up has no effect.
