Francis Marion University Hosts eZedia Training as part of its PT3 Grant Activities

WINNIPEG, CANADA – January 28, 2002 – Francis Marion University (FMU), rated one of the South's top 100 master's level universities, today announced a week-long multimedia training event to be held at FMU in connection with their ongoing partnership with eZedia. The training sessions, focusing on eZediaMX, will be held both on and off-campus beginning Monday, January 28 to Saturday, February 2nd as part of FMU's PT3 Capacity Building and Implementation Grant activities. The PT3 grants are part of a federal program administered by the US Department of Education to provide future teachers, nationwide, with experience in how digital technology is transforming education. eZedia Inc. is a research partner of the FMU PT3 federal grant.

According to Dr. Mike Madden, a member of FMU's PT3 team, "eZedia's ability to impress derives from the fact that anyone from young children to corporations under tight time-constraints can now create impressive multimedia presentations in a fraction of the time and without a difficult learning curve. Wired Magazine, a leader in spotting the latest in technology trends and issues, recently referred to eZedia as one of the most innovative products seen at Macworld Expo in San Francisco, an event attended by close to 90,000 people. This is the type of innovation to which we want our community to be exposed." The software is cross-platform, running on both Windows and Mac OS. Madden went on to say that eZedia seems to have a broad range of appeal - lawyers are exploring its use for presentation of information in the courtroom; doctors have been using it to create training materials; corporations have used it for promotional and training pieces; and, schools from PreK-12 to post-secondary are employing it to give students access to the new literacy tools of the 21st century.

Currently, all formal workshops are booked to capacity. Nevertheless, there is an opportunity for individuals who are interested, including community members, to attend an Open House from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2nd in Innovation Place (CEMC 208A) in the School of Education. For further information, contact Dr. Jane Madden, 843-661-1230 or e-mail hmadden@fmarion.edu. If this time is not convenient for you, eZedia will be returning to the area later in the spring and you can have your name placed on a notification list by contacting Dr. Madden.

About Francis Marion University
Francis Marion University was founded in 1970 and named in honor of Revolutionary War hero, General Francis Marion. However, the university can trace its history to 1957 when the University of South Carolina established a freshman center at the Florence County Library. In 1961, a permanent campus for USC-Florence was established seven miles east of Florence on land donated by the Wallace family, the current location of FMU. Following a Commission on Higher Education recommendation, Gov. Robert E. McNair signed into law an act creating Francis Marion College, effective July 1, 1970. The institution gained university status in 1992. FMU prides itself on providing a strong liberal arts education.
