1. eZeClip 1.0 - NEW Picture-in-Picture iMovie Plug-in
eZeClip for iMovie eZeClip is the third in a series of iMovie enhancements from eZedia. This plug-in allows users to add an additional movie over an iMovie clip to create picture-in-picture and split screen effects. The overlayed movie can be resized and looped, have borders added and drop shadows applied.

"The release of eZeClip, combined with eZedia's other plug-ins, gives iMovie users special effects and functionality that was previously only available in professional level products," said Stefan Embleton, President and Chief Executive Officer of eZedia Inc. "eZeClip continues to follow our mandate of producing incredibly powerful authoring software that lets everyone communicate through the digital medium."

"Easy-to-use applications like iMovie, iTunes, iPhoto and iDVD make the Mac the ideal hub for today's digital lifestyle," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "eZeClip is a wonderful addition to iMovie's video editing capabilities and we're excited to have eZedia's continued support."

2. QuickTime 6: The Digital Media Standard
QuickTime is more than a media player - it is a rich file format, the perfect environment for media authoring, and a complete suite of applications all rolled into one. These applications all work together to provide the industry's first end-to-end, standards-based digital media delivery system.

eZediaMX uses QuickTime to import and play back virtually all popular formats of media; including movie, sound and picture formats. With Apple's new release of QuickTime 6, you might be asking yourself if this upgrade will have an effect on your experience with eZediaMX. The answer is YES it will, but it will be a positive one!

QuickTime 6 adds support within eZediaMX for:
- MPEG-4 Video
- Macromedia Flash 5 files
- AAC Audio

The Effects dialog has also been updated with a more organized look, with 'Transitions' and 'Wipes' grouped together. For OS X users, the Effects dialog is now fully functional.

4. Applying Technology To Lifelong Learning
By Drs. Jane & Michael Madden
Francis Marion University

Are you trying to increase student and teacher skills in applying technology to lifelong learning, especially when it comes to exploring or expressing knowledge in science, math, engineering, and technology? The Information Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) grant competition is an exciting funding opportunity from the National Science Foundation (NSF) you don't want to miss out on.

National Science Foundation The ITEST has three components: (a) youth-based projects with strong emphases on career and educational paths; (b) comprehensive projects for students and teachers; and (c) Resource Center(s) that engage in research related to funded projects, provide technical support for ITEST projects, and have responsibilities for national dissemination of project models, instructional materials, and best practices.

In terms of the Youth-Based projects, the request for proposal (RFP) specifically states that it is looking for "innovative and creative models for engaging students in meaningful learning experiences." What is critical about this component is that there is a recognition that lifelong learning doesn't occur just as result of being in school forever. People need to get in the habit of learning and expressing that learning. The NSF is looking for projects that engage students in such a way that the energy for learning also emanates from the students themselves. In this sense, especially, multimedia is a powerful ally.

What is also interesting about the RFP is the discussion of the project characteristics noted for youth-based projects. The NSF is asking participants to go beyond the usual word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software, and Internet applications to the more exciting opportunities available. They make specific mention of multimedia authoring as one of the desirable elements.

There is an immense need for the type of activities being requested in this grant. eZedia would be an excellent resource in the development of a successful proposal. Read the entire RFP and you'll probably see, as I did, that there are numerous ways that eZedia could provide the competitive edge you want.
