Technology & Learning Magazine Honors Best K-12 Educational Products 2002-2003
Technology & Learning Magazine
October 17, 2003
SAN FRANCISCO, October 17, 2003 - Technology & Learning magazine
(www.techlearning.com),
the leading publication in the education technology market, today announced
winners of their Awards of Excellence 2003 program. Twenty-seven education software
and Web products were honored as the best K-12 offerings of the past year, with the three
top offerings to be announced in the Awards 2003 issue of the magazine.
More than 30 educator-judges logged in 30+ hours test-driving nearly 150 programs submitted by
education publishers. In particular judges rated products on their quality and effectiveness,
ease of use, creative use of technology and suitability for the school environment. Each product
underwent three rounds of judging by educators and the T&L editorial team.
"This year's honorees reflect trends in today's core curriculum focus as well as emerging and
mobile technologies," commented T&L editor in chief, Susan McLester.
In the language arts/reading area both Compass Learning and PLATO Learning took home prizes, and in
math, Wolfram Research, Inc. and Compass again both scored. Digital video got a big push with winning
offerings from United Learning and AIMS Multimedia, and integrated software/hardware systems were
recognized with SMART Technologies' Interactive Smart Board, and LeapFrog Schoolhouses' Ready, Set,
Leap and Read it All. Additional two-time winners include Ulead Systems for Photo Impact 8 and Video
Studio 7, and Handmark for Road Scholar and Mobile Mentor.
Thinkronize's NetTrekker, a searchable database of resources for educators and students, and Media
Spinner's Atomic Learning series of online tutorials reflect some of the best uses of the Internet
for today's classrooms. And educators' recognition of Apple's iLife for the Classroom suite of digital
multimedia tools is a powerful indication of just how much change the K-12 classroom has undergone in
the past twenty years.
