eZedia is currently looking for beta testers interested in testing future releases of eZediaQTI,
eZediaMX, and eZedia Player. The eZedia Beta Test Program needs volunteers to thoroughly test eZedia's
pre-release functions and features to a wide range of hardware conditions and real-world usage.
To participate in this exciting opportunity, read through the following FAQs and then fill out the
application that follows.
Beta Testing FAQ
1. What is Beta Testing?
Beta testing is the final stage of testing the software, after in-house testing and prior to commercial availability to the public.
2. Can anyone apply?
Everyone is encouraged to apply, as long as you are at least 18 years old.
This is the minimum age at which a person can sign an eZedia Non-Disclosure Agreement.
Please ensure:
- you are comfortable with different types of software and you think computers are fun
- you are curious and persistent when exploring new things
- you have experience with multimedia
- you have time to regularly download and assess each new build we provide
- you have the patience to tolerate potential crashes to your system
3. Do I need a special computer?
The computer you use for testing can be a stand-alone or on a network and must meet
the eZediaMX System Requirements
and eZediaQTI System Requirements
as outlined.
4. Do I need special training?
No. All you need is a passion for computers and familiarity with more than one type of software.
(Yes, games do count!) eZedia provides test outlines, documentation and a forum for
discussing issues with other beta testers.
5. What are the benefits of participating in a beta test?
- You become an early insider. You see, and get familiar with, new software before it becomes commercially available to everyone else.
- You contribute to the software's final design, a plus for those who like to have their opinions heard.
- You gain valuable experience related to software design, a real plus on your resume for those seeking employment in this field.
- You gain exposure to the Software Development Lifecycle, a bonus to those considering a career in this direction.
6. What else can I expect to experience while testing eZedia?
A beta tester will encounter bugs, slow performance, missing features and incomplete documentation.
When trying any new software, always take precautions to back up your data should there be an unexpected
conflict or serious error during installation.
7. How are Beta Testers chosen?
eZedia needs to have a good representative sampling of computer configurations and user abilities.
The broader the spectrum of people in this group, the better.
Every applicant will be considered and those chosen will be contacted by e-mail.
Those not chosen for this round of testing, will be kept on file for 6 months for future consideration.
8. How long will the beta test last?
Each "phase" of testing will be anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months. As each phase comes to a close,
you will be asked if you wish to continue.
9. Will I be able to continue using the software after the testing period?
No. The pre-release software, along with the Beta License and your Non-Disclosure Agreement all expire at the end of each testing phase.
10. Why doesn't eZedia do it's own testing?
We Do! Our Quality Assurance department subjects the software to very methodical and
detailed tests on a technical (alpha) level. We can only test on a
certain number of hardware variations before requesting outside help. Beta testing,
performed by real users on a variety of computers, contributes to the QA process by unearthing
user scenarios which our engineers may not have anticipated.
11. Sounds interesting, but I want to know more before applying.
Filling out the Beta Tester Application form does not commit you to anything.
Your commitment to us, and our commitment to you, does not begin until
your application is accepted by eZedia and you sign the Non-Disclosure Agreement.
Go ahead and give it a try. It'll be fun!
If you have questions, please e-mail eZedia at beta@ezedia.com
